PE & Sports Premium

What is PE and Sports Premium Funding?

The Primary PE and Sport Premium was introduced in March 2013 to improve the provision of physical education and school sport in primary schools across England. The government have announced that this funding will continue for the academic year 2020-2021. The £320 million funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health, and Culture, Media and Sport.

The PE and Sport Premium is designed to help children get an active start in life, supporting primary schools to improve the quality of their PE and sport provision so that pupils experience the benefits of regular exercise – from becoming healthier both mentally and physically, to improving behaviour and better academic achievement.

This funding will support us to:

  • Focus on our children receiving high quality PE teaching for all children by ensuring staff receive support with their CPD needs.

  • Focus on the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle.

  • Increase the number and variety of enrichment opportunities before school, at lunchtime and after school to engage children in different sports and physical activity.

  • Provide support for our PE lead to attend subject specific courses to keep abreast of local and national initiatives.

  • Provide CPD for NQT’s to attend PE courses.

  • To provide courses to meet the CPD needs of staff, as identified.

  • Provide transport for children to take part in inter school competition, organized by Manchester PE Association.

  • Provide targeted physical intervention groups for pupils in Yr 5/6 to help improve their physical development.

  • Subscriptions to Manchester PE Association, Lancashire Cricket Association, Association of Physical Education.

  • Increasing pupils’ participation in inter and intra school competitions.

  • Summer 2 - provide “Top up” swimming lessons for Yr 6 children who have not yet achieved 25m.
