Year 1 - Pine Class
Welcome to Pine Class
What a lovely start to Year 1, Pine have loved walking around The Broad Oak Hearts Trail.

We have been getting to know our classroom and settling into Year 1.

We have been developing our mark-making skills by creating a variety of line types and experimenting with different media. We then applied these techniques and materials to draw pumpkins and pears from observation.

Pine have been logging into computers and iPads to access the website Sketchpad, where we have experimented with a range of digital tools. We have used our mouse control skills to click and drag to draw freely, apply and change backgrounds, and draw and edit shapes and emojis. We then applied these skills to create a scene from The Three Little Pigs and design our own self-portraits.

In Gymnastics, Pine have been exploring different travelling movements and learning to develop and combine them. We have focused on improving the quality of our shapes, as well as building stability and control when performing balances.

In Fundamentals, Pine have been exploring a range of travelling movements and developing our ability to move in different ways with control and coordination. We have focused on improving the quality of our movements, as well as building balance, stability, and body control when performing a variety of actions.

FRED IS MISSING!
Please can you help Pine find Fred The Frog!
Fred came to the forest with us to play hide and seek but unfortunately, when Fred was seeking us he got lost. We've created some lost posters with some descriptions of Fred to help us.
Thank you for your help!

FRED UPDATE
Great news! Thank you to eveyone who helped us look for Fred, he has been found safe and well in Hazel!

In History Pine have been exploring the topic How am I making History? We have been looking at significant events in our own lives and sharing special memories. We created personal timelines and compared our childhoods to those of our parents, carers, and grandparents. As part of our learning, we visited Portland Basin Museum and took part in a school workshop, where we explored what life was like in the past, including school life, different types of clothes worn and what shopping was like.

In RE, Pine have been learning about Christians and their beliefs. We explored a range of Christian artefacts, discussing what Christians believe and why they pray. We also spent time reflecting on our own thoughts and feelings through quiet meditation.
In Maths, Pine have been learning about greater than and less than. We have practised recognising and drawing the symbols < and > and used them to compare different amounts. We also linked this learning to capacity, exploring how to compare quantities using water.

Pine’s Autumn 2 Forest Crew Adventures!
Pine have enjoyed visiting our school forest. We have been on a leaf hunt to find different types of leaves, taken part in a bug hunt to discover minibeasts in their habitats, and used our teamwork skills to build dens together. We ended our Forest Crew session by enjoying a warm hot chocolate and a snack together.

In Writing, Pine have been using command words to build instructions for how to wash a woolly mammoth.

As it’s getting closer to winter, we have stocked up our bird feeder to help provide food for the birds in our school grounds.
